Subtitle Writing Rules

Line Breaks & Punctuation

  • Two Lines > One: Better to split long sentences into two balanced lines than one crampy line.
  • Break Points: Break before prepositions (of, on, for) and articles (a, an, the).
  • After Commas: Always break after a comma, never before.
  • No Hyphens: Avoid splitting words with hyphens across lines.

Formatting & Style

  • Casing: Use lowercase by default. ("hello world")
  • Exceptions: Capitalize only Proper Nouns (People, Characters, Places) and the letter "I".
  • No Widows: Never leave a single word alone on a line. Balance it out.
  • Names Together: Keep names intact (e.g., "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" on one line).
  • Symbols: Use full-scale symbols (50%), DO NOT use superscript (50%).

Ensure subtitles and logos strictly adhere to the blue safe zones to avoid being covered by UI elements.

06. Mandates & Rules

Visual & Audio Mandates

  • Fonts: Max 2 fonts per video. (Rare exceptions can have 3).
  • Colors: Limit to 2 contrasting colors. Ensure high readability.
  • Audio Levels: Ensure all audio is balanced and leveled properly.
  • Stock Assets: Use Epidemic Sound or Envato Elements only.
  • Reference: Check @primevideoin Reels for visual style.

Critical Don'ts

  • NO RED: Do not use the color Red in any graphics or text.
  • No Copyright Music: Strictly prohibited.
  • No Deviations: Attribution & Fonts must match the preview exactly.
  • No Link Sharing: Do not share internal links.
  • Don't Mix Styles: Keep it clean. Avoid cluttering with too many font styles.

  • ⏱️ Frame Rate: Match Source (Usually 24/25/30fps)
  • 📏 Resolution: 1080x1920 (Reels) / 1080x1350 (Carousel)

Audio Targets

  • 🗣️ Dialogue: -6dB to -12dB (Clear & Present)
  • 🎵 Music: -18dB to -24dB (Background)
  • 🔊 SFX: -10dB to -15dB (Accents)
  • 📢 Master Peak: -2dB (Never clip at 0dB)
